VTA Announces National Geographic Live Series, Spring 2013

Victoria Theatre Association today announced the brand new National Geographic Live Series for the 2012-2013 Season! A co-presentation between Victoria Theatre Association and Five Rivers MetroParks,National Geographic Live is a new series of three lecture events held at the historic Victoria Theatre.
For many years National Geographic Live has been bringing the world of National Geographic to cities across North America. Now, Nat Geo Live brings its unique mix of dynamic fascinating people, and their captivating stories from the frontlines of exploration to Dayton and the Victoria Theatre. Illustrated with award-winning photography and video, each evening concludes with a question-and-answer session, and an opportunity to meet the presenter.

JOEL SARTORE: Grizzlies, Piranhas & Man-Eating Pigs

Photographer - Wildlife Conservationist
Photographer, author and regular contributor to National Geographic magazine, Sartore is an environmentalist and conservationist who champions endangered species and landscapes, documenting a world worth saving. Joel’s assignments have taken him to some of the world’s most beautiful and challenging environments, from the Arctic to the Antarctic, and he has photographed everything from the remote Amazon to beer-drinking, mountain-racing firefighters in the United Kingdom. Joel and his work are the subjects of several national broadcasts including National Geographic’s “Explorer,” “The NBC Nightly News,” NPR’s “Weekend Edition” and an hour-long PBS documentary, “At Close Range.” He is also a regular contributor on “CBS Sunday Morning” with Charles Osgood.
ANNIE GRIFFITHS: A Camera, Two Kids & a Camel

One of the first women photographers to work for National Geographic, Griffiths has photographed in more than 100 countries during her illustrious career. She has worked on dozens of magazine and book projects for the Society, including stories on Lawrence of Arabia, Baja California, Galilee, Petra, Sydney, New Zealand, and Jerusalem. In addition to her magazine work, Griffiths is deeply committed to photographing people and places in need around the world. A popular lecturer, Griffiths has a gift for sharing stories and photographs that humanize situations and cultures. Griffiths’ work has also appeared in LIFE, Geo, Smithsonian, Stern, Time and many other publications.
PAUL SERENO: The Dinosaur Hunter

Paleontologist – Evolutionist
Discoverer of dinosaurs on five continents and leader of dozens of expeditions, Sereno began his field work in the foothills of the Andes in Argentina, where his team discovered the first dinosaurs to roam the Earth - the predators Herrerasaurusand the primitive Eoraptor, the "dawn stealer." These expeditions revealed the most complete picture yet of the dawn of the dinosaur era, some 225 million years ago. One of National Geographic's esteemed Explorers-in-Residence, Sereno is a member of the faculty of the University of Chicago, where he teaches paleontology and evolution to graduate and undergraduate students and human anatomy to medical students.
