This fall, Paul J. Botelho, Brice Brown, Douglas Dunn, and Steve Gibson will present BODY / SHADOW, a new experimental opera featuring 16 dancers. Performances are Friday, October 27 and Saturday, October 28, at 8pm, at Judson Memorial Church, 55 Washington Square South (between Thompson and Sullivan Streets), in Manhattan. 

After nine sold-out performances this past April, Garden Party, a collaborative work by choreographer Douglas Dunn, visual artist/designer Mimi Gross, and lighting designer Lauren Parrish, will return this fall.

What did our critic think of FJK DANCE: RAISING THE ARAB VOICE IN CONTEMPORARY DANCE at New York Live Arts? For their ninth season, FJK Dance presents three company signature works by Artistic Director Fadi J. Khoury, each rich with contemporary and visual arts, reflective narratives, and an overarching motif of peace building.

Pat Catterson and Molissa Fenley, two of the seminal figures in modern dance, will present a collaborative program titled Taking the Long View at The Dance Complex on Saturday and Sunday April 15-16.  

Douglas Dunn + Dancers will present the premiere of Garden Party, a collaborative work by choreographer Douglas Dunn, visual artist/designer Mimi Gross, and lighting designer Lauren Parrish, April 24–30 (Monday–Sunday), at Douglas Dunn Studio, 541 Broadway, Third Floor, in Manhattan. FJK Dance will celebrate its Eighth Anniversary Season at New York Live Arts from October 13-15, 2022, featuring a preview of Fadi J. Khoury's multimedia creation, Off Limits. A benefit Gala event will follow the opening night performance on October 13.

Cathy Weis Projects will present two Sundays on Broadway events in May. The evenings will feature new and in-progress works by seven stellar dance artists. Both events begin at 6pm. $10 suggested donation at the door. WeisAcres is located at 537 Broadway, #3 (between Prince and Spring Streets), in Manhattan.

NEXT WEEK, Nov. 9 through Nov. 15, the 2020 ADG Virtual Festival will stream WEEK FIVE, a special tribute to choreographers Joan Myers Brown, Douglas Dunn and Bill Evans, honorees at American Dance Guild Festival 2014. The Society of Fellows of the American Academy in Rome presents SALONE!, a multimedia/live performance event showcasing the work of world-renown choreographers, artists, composers, actors, and artisans who have each been awarded the prestigious Rome Prize. The premiere event will take place on March 24, 2020, at Roulette in Brooklyn, within a vibrant theater-in-the-round atmosphere welcoming the full engagement of attendees.

This diverse program includes ACCUSED (Variation B), exploring the sometimes dark nature of society and whether society is the culprit of devastating events, or in fact, a victim of itself. The second dance is a duet: LIFELINE, a romantic yet complex duet set to music by Karl Jenkins about a couple driven together by desire and pulled apart by outside forces. The third piece is a World Premiere of the NEW WORK, set to the earth-shattering and dynamic composition score by contemporary Irish composer Donnacha Dennehy, 'Gra agus Bas.' The final dance is the joyous MURMURATION, set to music by Ottorino Respighi and highlights the tale of the beautiful aerial ballet of the starlings.

Time Out - It was a pivotal year for Dunn. He was thirty-one. He had left the Cunningham Company in the spring of 1973. Grand Union was sporadically continuing. He had danced duet concerts with Sara Rudner, David Gordon, and Pat Catterson, here and there had also presented short solos on mixed programs. What now? He wrote: 'I'm in turmoil. It's a question of confidence. These theatrical scenes running around in my head, for years. If I can bring them to life as an evening-length solo, my dance-heart will strengthen, I will persevere.

Lines of light illuminate the pathway of a woman in flight. Her focus is razor sharp as she surveys men soaring around her in configurations that fluctuate between the flight patterns of birds and planes. Eventually these men hoist and entangle her in a never-ending series of lifts that keep her suspended as she writes on the air with her body. Skillfully made 'dancing for the sake of dancing' is a special treat to drink in especially when it stars a captivating wellspring of power like Alexandra Berger. For Dušan Týnek Dance Theatre's July 7th opening night concert at New York Live Arts, the radiance that Ms. Berger beamed in this opening piece proved hypnotic.
